Symptom
RSV-SRV-0003 The report specification contains an error at line ‘1’

Problem
Unable to save report in Cognos Connection even though the user has the proper permissions.

Cause
The Content Store database has ran out of disk space.

Solution
Increase the storage space of the content store db.

Problem
Validating or running a report displays the following

Cause
The report specs contain invalid syntax/information. In new releases, the validation has become stricter, so this message appears often on a report that worked in a previous release without a problem.

Environment
Cognos 8 Report Studio

Resolving the problem

  1. Get the report specs in Report Studio by clicking Tools->Copy report to clipboard, then pasting into a text editor. Disable line wrapping is not enabled so the line numbers will be correct
  2. Move to the specified line and column numbers to find out what the troublesum element is.
  3. Fix the problem element, if possible
  4. Copy the entire report specs and then in Report Studio: Tools->Open report from clipboard, to use the updated report specs.

One of my reports is giving this error when i try to run it or try to open it in reports studio…

copy to clipboard option can not help in this regard since i am not even able to open the report yet.

any other way to open the report or get its xml code/specification ?
