Question
In Cognos Configuration, what is the effect of the Environment->“Sort Buffer Size in MB” setting?

Answer
The sort buffer is the amount of memory that is allocated for every process that requires local sorting (sorting that is done by Cognos software, rather than by the database). For example, if the sort buffer is 4Mb and 3 reports are being run concurrently that require local sorting, then (3 x 4MB = 12MB) of memory will be allocated.

For more information, search for ‘sort buffer’ within the Installation and Configuration Guide
