Congos error "An error occured while trying to access server"

Hi,

While launching cognos controller i am getting an error.
“An error occured while trying to access server”

While checking in the event log in the appl server the error message is

DCOM got error "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. " and was unable to logon ‘domainadmin’ in order to run the server:

Please give me solution.

hi Prasobbh,

Can you provide some more information about the OS/single server?/versions?
Is it a new install or did it suddenly stop working?

But on first sight it looks like an incorrect credentials for controller service or COM+.

It was working fine. Actually we are not using cognos in full fledg. So we came to know recently only that it is not working. We are using seprate server for application and database. The ‘OS’ is windows 2003. Database Sql server 2005. Cognos version 8.

Did the password expire or change of the domain account ?.. :-\

  1. The domain user must be a member of the administrators group on the controller server
  2. In the COM+ properties you must change the login under the “identity” tab for the IBMCONTROLLER component
  3. The ibm controller windows service -> properties “run as” tab

that should do the trick! 8)
