Content

This notice applies to the Fix Pack 1 for BI Server and Cognos Statistics. The Fix Packs for Mobile and Cognos Analysis for Microsoft Excel remain available for download.

We will communicate via a News item once the Fix Pack is again available for download.

If you have applied Fix Pack 1 in your environment, we recommend that you revert back to the GA release.

Reverting to a previous version of software without a re installation is only possible if 'Yes" was selected when prompted to automatically create a backup of all files that are replaced and an update_YYYYMMDD_HHMM directory exists under the <Cognos BI Installation directory>\uninstall\backup that matches the date and time of the Fix Pack 1 installation. Upon confirmation of the existence of this directory follow the set of steps below to restore the software to the previously installed level:

Windows:
1. Stop the Cognos BI processes by using Cognos Configuration or stop the application server instance hosting Cognos BI if deployed to an application server.
2. Close out of any Cognos BI tools such as Framework Manager or Cognos Configuration, if running.
3. Stop the web server hosting the Cognos BI gateway.
4. Make a full copy of the <Cognos BI Installation directory> for backup purposes outside of the current installation directory.
5. Using Windows Explorer, navigate into the <Cognos BI Installation directory>\uninstall\backup\update_YYYYMMDD_HHMM directory.
6. Select the entire contents of this directory.
7. Using Windows Explorer, navigate into the <Cognos BI Installation directory>.
8. Paste the previously selected contents into this directory.
9. When prompted about conflicts, select merge and Copy and Replace for all conflicts.

Linux / Unix
1. Stop the Cognos BI processes by using Cognos Configuration or stop the application server instance hosting Cognos BI if deployed to an application server.
2. Close out of Cognos Configuration if running.
3. Stop the web server hosting the Cognos BI gateway.
4. Make a full copy of the <Cognos BI Installation directory> for backup purposes outside of the current installation directory.
5. Run the following command as the owner of the Cognos installation where the <Cognos BI Installation directory> is full path to the Cognos BI product installation location.
cp -r <Cognos BI Installation directory>/uninstall/backup/update_YYYYMMDD_HHMM/* <Cognos BI Installation directory>
Example:
cp -r /usr/cognos/c10/uninstall/backup/update_YYYYMMDD_HHMM/* /usr/cognos/c10

These steps should be repeated for every installation where the Fix Pack 1 updater was installed including Gateways, Application Tier Components, Content Managers, and Framework Manager installations.

If Cognos BI is deployed to an application server other than the supplied offering then the application should be removed and recreated and redeployed after the above steps have been completed. Instructions can be found in the Installation and Configuration documentation provided with the product specific to the these steps and supported application server vendor.
