CAM-CRP-1091 Unable to request the common symmetric key from the remote

Problem
After upgrading an installation of Framework Manager, encounter error opening Cognos Configuration. The previous version was uninstalled and the new version has been installed into the same location.

Symptom
CAM-CRP-1091 Unable to request the common symmetric key from the remote content store using the following URI:
‘https://servername:443/cognos8/cgi-bin/cognos.cgi’.
Reason: javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Unrecognized SSL message, plaintext connection?
or
CAM-CRP-1091 Unable to request the common symmetric key from the remote content store using the following URI:
‘https://servername:443/cognos8/cgi-bin/cognos.cgi’.
Reason: javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Unrecognized SSL handshake.

Solution
Rename the encryption folders and startup file, open Cognos Configuration and reapply the environment settings
Steps:

  1. Remove the csk, encryptkeypair and signkeypair out of the <install_dir>\configuration folder
  2. Remove the cogstartup.xml file out of the <install_dir>\configuration folder
  3. Open Cognos Configuration, enter the Environment settings for Gateway and Dispatcher URI
  4. Save and restart Cognos service
